Congratulations to Victoria Ward, Winner of
St. Augustine Sings!

The hunt was on for the best vocalist in St. Johns County, after several auditions, rehearsals and the St. Augustine Sings Finals on
Friday, August 24, Victoria Ward was announced the winner of the first St. Augustine Sings vocal competition. All the proceeds from the competition went to THE PLAYERS Championship Boys & Girls Club building fund. The event rose over $15,000 for THE PLAYERS Championship Club. A spin-off of American Idol, eleven contestants competed at the Flagler College Auditorium on August 24th, all for the chance to become the first winner of St. Augustine Sings. Contestants, who all hailed from different backgrounds, stood on stage in front of a packed Flagler College Auditorium and gave their best in their two song choices. Ward, who was very overwhelmed by the announcement of her winning, sung “Why Don’t You Call Me Anymore” and “Chain of Fools.” Once the contestants were finished, the audience was given the chance to cast their votes for the winner. National Recording Artist Craig Hand, a St. Augustine singer who is climbing the charts in the country music scene, provided entertainment during the counting of the ballots.

Ward, a recent graduate of St. Augustine High, received a recording package from Eclipse Studio, which included: 12 hours of studio time, recoding engineer, 50 pro packed CDs, an hour of CD design time and a career consultation. Ward, also received a $100 gift certificate from Grandpa’s Music in St. Augustine .
Runners-up were Jennifer Levoy and Rebekah Danielson, who each received small individual recording packages from Eclipse Studio. Sponsored by the Center for Positive Living, St. Augustine Sings was emceed by Dave Elliott Johnson from Flagler College Radio and founder of DD Star Music Productions( http://www.ddstarmusic.com/). As a number one songwriter and Gold and Platinum producer, Johnson is a third generation drummer and has shared the stage with various musical celebrities.

During the program, a check was presented to Debbie Verges, president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida, for the over $17,000 that was raised for the building fund of THE PLAYERS Championship Boys & Girls Club. The proposed 15,000 sq. ft building to be built in Chase Park on West King Street will replace the current St. Augustine Boys & Girls Club in Woodlawn Terrace in West Augustine
